Excerpt: ... ANNUAL REPORT. The Board of Directors submit the following Report: --The close of another year of the operations of the Institute makes it necessary to present the customary Annual Report. The meetings of the Board, prescribed by the Constitution, have been held, and the usual business transacted. At the meeting in January, it was voted to transfer the Library to the Union Education Room of Massachusetts, in Chauncy Street, Boston, and to pay the sum of $50 towards defraying the expense of keeping open said room for teachers, and furnishing it with educational periodicals. This plan is now in successful operation, the whole amount raised for the purpose being about $500, and the establishment being under control of a Joint Committee from this Board, from the Massachusetts State Teachers' Association, and from the subscribers at large. The meeting at Manchester, N. H., last year, was well attended, and it is believed that much useful information on the subject of education was thus diffused. More time was devoted to discussions, and less to lectures, than in former years--an arrangement which, in the judgment of the Board, is calculated to increase the usefulness and interest of the meetings. Lectures, delivered at the last meeting, together with the Journal of Proceedings and a verbatim Report of the discussions, have been printed in a neat volume, in uniform style, with the new series of the publications of the Institute, by Messrs.
